The hike at Mt. Genevieve is locally known as Sleeping Beauty. From a distance you can pick out a face, breasts and knees of a woman laying down. The mountain is accessed via logging roads and overlooks the Village of Queen Charlotte. As you navigate up a series of steep switchbacks you’ll encounter wooden & stone steps, ladders, and ropes to assist in your climb. There is tree coverage for most of the way, opening to a relatively flat area and pond just below the summit. From the top you’ll see a breathtaking view of the ocean as it wraps around all the inlets and bays along the coast. On a clear day you can see the tips of the Alaskan Islands.
This hike is rated difficult. It’s very steep in sections and makes for a hard descent. You don’t have to be an avid hiker to attend, (we take lots of breaks) but you should be reasonably fit.
